OceanGate Submarine Inspecting the Wreckage of Titanic

The US Coast Guard on Thursday announced the discovery of debris found by a remote operated vehicle given an indication of a “catastrophic implosion” of the missing Titan submersible.

Rear Admiral John Mauger noted that the families were immediately informed. Remote operated vehicles will continue to search the area.

“The debris field is consistent with catastrophic implosion of the vessel”  the admiral said. Furthermore, he opined that sonar buoys have been in the water for 72 hours and did not detect any implosion, suggesting it happened some time ago.

This comes after the operator of the missing Titan submersible said that they believe all five passengers “have sadly been lost”.

According to the statement released by the OceanGate: “We now believe that our CEO Stockton Rush, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, Hamish Harding, and Paul-Henri Nargeolet, have sadly been lost.”

Who are the 5 people on OceanGate? The men on board of the commecial sub are:

  • Stockton Rush, the 61-year-old CEO of OceanGate.
  • 48-year British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood.
  • 19-year old Suleman Dawood.
  • British businessman Hamish Harding, 58-year.
  • 77-year-old former French navy diver and renowned explorer Paul-Henry Nargeolet.

Several experts have allayed fears on the experimental Submarine being operated by OceanGate not meeting up to standard. The commecial sub was due to convey interested passengers willing to pay up to $250,000 per trip to see the wreckage of Titanic at about 13,500 feets below sea level.
