When borders were shut due to the pandemic, many foreign Universities suffered from sudden revenue shorfall as a result of travel restrictions and their inability to admit as much foreign students as expected, many switched to online courses with cheaper tuition fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three years on, there have been no sign that these Universities now have alternatives, rather the scrambling for foreign students have increased.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more Read More-->\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As reported by Bloomberg, at peak 2019 levels, when some 5.5 million students globally traveled overseas for study, education exports totaled $26.9 billion for Australia, $30.8 billion for the UK and $44 billion for the US in the 2018\/19 academic year.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is predicted that there\u2019ll be as many as 9.5 million students traveling overseas for study by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the Jan 8, 2023, China orders reopening and demand that anyone pursuing degrees at foreign universities get back to class this is according to Bloomberg News. This directive is coming amid a heightened race among English-speaking countries to attract international students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The reopening of China\u2019s borders also meant it was finally possible for Chinese students to head back to overseas universities, from Asia and Europe to the US.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Many students in China are now rushing to get scarce plane tickets and arrange visa and other paperwork in time for the next semester&#8221; as reported by Bloomberg News <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Catriona Jackson, chief executive of the higher education advocacy group Universities, Australia in a statement \u201cChina\u2019s decision will encourage students to return to Australia which is a good thing\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aside the Universities, the host nations like UK, Australia and US also benefit from international students; the host countries enjoy additional spending by the students and they provide extra labour to countries like UK who are struggling to fill low-paying jobs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Foreign Universities rely on juicy income from international students.
