Following a major crackdown on legal immigration into the UK via the Student route, the UK Government have announced major changes to the immigration law regarding the Student Visa’s.
UK Government Set to Ban Dependants on Student Visa
As announced in the Parliament on the 23rd of May 2023, international students will no longer be able to bring relatives with them except under specific circumstances as the government seeks to reduce immigration numbers.
Highlights of the Changes to UK Student Visa from January 2024
1. Foreign students will not be able to bring in their dependants with them except students on courses designated as research programmes (PHD).
2. International students will no longer be able to switch out of the student route and into work routes before their studies have been completed.
3. Review of the maintenance requirement for students and dependants (This is mostly likely an upward ammendment to reflect the rising cost).
4. Crackdown on “unscrupulous” education providers “who make use of inappropriate applications to sell immigration, not education”.
